Rumour: Cedar Point - Diving 2016

Postby Simba » Tue Jan 13, 2015 9:28 pm

For many year SanduskyRegister.com have been accurate about Cedar Point investments, including most recently their last two coasters GateKeeper (2013) and Maverick (2007). They have seen a memo that Swiss Company Bolliger and Mabillard will be building a Diving Coaster on the location of the former "Good Time Theater", B&M have worked with Cedar Fair a lot recently with many projects so it seriously isn't unlikely to suggest that this trend will continue.

It is expected that it will cost $15 million, and if it turns out to be a B&M Diving Coaster, Cedar Point will have Four B&M Coasters (GateKeeper, Raptor, Rougarou) in the park which I find pretty impressive.

SanduskyRegister.com wrote:The fact that Cedar Point and Cedar Fair, the park's operator, are considering another large-scale coaster so soon after B&M built GateKeeper does not surprise Speigel. Considering the success of The Banshee at King's Island, Cedar Fair would want to keep the momentum going. A new coaster adds excitement to the company name and brings guests into the parks, Speigel said.

The proposed Dive Coaster has three 24-passenger trains. Each train has eight people seated in a row, with each person restrained by a shoulder harness.

B&M is designing into the ride, a vertical drop in a tunnel, an Immelmann, a 270-degree roll, a banked curve, a "looping," an Immelmann with a half-roll exit, a second drop, a camel back and a spiral with a total of four inversions, according to the memo.

The height of the lift in the proposal is about 223 feet above ground level. The length of the track of about 3,625 feet, according to the memo. The proposed Dive Coaster has a maximum speed of about 80 mph with a ride lasting about 195 seconds, including 30 seconds for loading and unloading of passengers. At that rate 1,310 guests per hour could ride the coaster.

I am so hoping that this Dive Coaster becomes real as it sounds brilliant.

I'm personally not 100% with this idea just yet I feel like a dive machine is somewhat like a wing coaster because the outer seats are very similar to a wing design. I personally think that they need a Gerstlauer Eurofighter or infinity coaster. maybe a Mack spinning coaster, a GCI inverting woodie, or a S&S 4D would fit better in the space that would be provided. still I like the idea of the four inversions compared to the maximum of two or even less. but I guess we'll find out.

I agree with CP2013 here. A dive coaster could feel a lot like a wing coaster to most people and Cedar Point do need something different at the moment.

I see we have some more space opening up by the theatre. the land around the good time theatre has now been announced that Turnpike Cars and Sir Rub-a-Dub's being removed from the park, Kiddy Karz moving to Planet Snoopy in the spot previously occupied by the gazebo, the Dodgems and Calypso moving near the Ferris Wheel (Calypso also renamed to Tiki Twirl) and Maverick getting I305's soft OTSRs.

so the new area around the ferris wheel will look somewhat like this

and the new land opening up will be

and here's a little concept art

I personally like that they have decided to move some of the good rides and remove the lesser liked rides around that area. I can't wait to see what's going on around that new opening of land . I also like that they are renaming Calypso to is other (removed) Tiki twirl counterpart which was put in along with it in 1970 being both identical though in 1984 Tiki Twirl was removed and Calypso stayed.

Looks interesting. More space is left in that park than I thought. I still stick with my last comment though.

kinda reopening this thread by since cedar fair has a thing for numbers (fury 325 media day 3/25/15 for example) it seems a bit wild and crazy but could we see for the 150th anniversary cedar point hits 20 coasters by 2020? we've seen crazy stuff happen before so why not 20 coasters, the Idea could work out very well because they are at 17 (they count pipe scream as a coaster and personally I've given up on fighting that) a dive coaster (or what ever it may be 18) for 2016 a dark ride for 2017 and a conversion of mean streak (19 if they count it as a coaster) and 2020 a new coaster that breaks records (20 if this works out correctly). anyone think this is even plausible?

I see your point there and it could happen. It would require a lot of investment though.

just recently went into the view of looking into recent trademarks for cedar point and a new one has popped up and it sounds interesting.
Trademark link: http://www.trademarkia.com/valravn-86601000.html

Valravn is a supernatural raven. The ravens appear in traditional Danish folksongs, where they are described as originating from ravens who consume the bodies of the dead on the battlefield, as capable of turning into the form of a knight after consuming the heart of a child, and, alternately, as half-wolf and half-raven creatures.
hmmm I see a trend happening to cedar point with mythical and folklore type creatures but still if this is the name of the new "ride" it sounds pretty cool and I think it'll work out very well. but I don't think the name fits a dive machine very well. I kind of picked up on the idea of the Valravn being a wolf raven hybrid which really fits a RMC hybrid fantastically.

Valravn really does sound like it would be the name of a rollercoaster, considering they've just launched Rougarou this year, it sounds like it fits around the beast type of titles, even GateKeeper fits it.

Interesting. When Cedar Point gets a copyright made, it does usually mean the it is the name for a forthcoming ride. Be it for a coaster or not, it is still a very cool name!
