Well it is pretty much inversion to inversion, but I still reckon this is going to be one of the last inversion coasters at Towers, due to the new building restrictions. The Smiler was really needed to feel the void of inversions lost by the removal of Corkscrew and Thunder Looper.

Agreed. For ages after Corkscrew left, I felt like the park was missing something and that something was an average sit-down non-gimmicky looper. This has plugged that gap amazingly.

Non-gimmicky hold on a second, isn't The Smiler a gimmicky-looper, especially with the Marmiliser :D
I still think it was a bad decision by Merlin/Towers to get rid of Corkscrew though.

You hardly notice the Marmaliser things on-ride. Plus, it isn't as gimmicky as 13 or if it had the washing-machine element.

At approximately 10:40 this morning, guests at Alton Towers reported on Twitter that The Smiler broke down. Eye witnesses are saying that a bolt flew out of the track and landed on the safety cages above the queue line. Nobody was injured. As a result, two sections of the Gerstaluer the track have slightly separated. Alton Towers have closed the ride.

Woops. Lucky for the cages on the queueline then, otherwise the falling bolt could have hurt someone. Also lucky it didn't cause a train to derail due to the loose track.

Doubt this'll be open for when I'm planning to go on week on Thursday.

Ooh ok. I thought this would stay shut for a lot longer than that! I thought they'd have to get a crane in to properly re-align the track and under health and safety, go round checking every single bolt making sure they are all in properly in order to try and stop this from happening again.

If they have done that, they've done it stupidly quickly.

I can't believe how much trouble Alton have had with The Smiler since opening, I feel sorry for Towers and also the guests going to mainly experience The Smiler.
I highly doubt this amount of problems would have been created by an Intamin Vertical Lift Coaster, so it begs the question why they didn't pay a little bit more money for a better quality coaster.

It's always down to money, Eclipse. Even if it may mean slightly better quality, the parks will nearly always go for what's cheapest. That's the main reason only 3 S&S 4D's have been built.
