Thunder Dolphin (Tokyo Dome City)

Postby Simba » Tue Nov 22, 2011 6:50 pm

Thunder Dolphin is a steel roller coaster at the Tokyo Dome City Attractions amusement park, which is part of Tokyo Dome City in Tokyo, Japan. The ride was designed and constructed by Intamin. At 262 feet (80 m) tall, Thunder Dolphin is currently the 6th tallest continuous circuit roller coaster in the world, behind Kingda Ka, Top Thrill Dragster, Steel Dragon 2000, Millennium Force, and Intimidator 305.
Thunder Dolphin's 3,500 feet (1,100 m) long course passes through both a hole in the LaQua building, and through the Big-O, the world's first centerless Ferris wheel. Thunder Dolphin's maximum speed is 130 kilometres per hour (81 mph).

Thunder Dolphin is temporarily closed, and is currently standing but not operating. I am wondering why they have temporarily closed it, as I can't find any press releases about it.

I think the park itself has shut. It may have also been due to an accident on it a while ago. Heard something that the park are struggling to get it back open due to that.

The park itself is open, Thunder Dolphin is listed on the website as "Temporary Closed" but I can't find anywhere that there has been an accident on it recently. The only recorded accident is on the 5th December 2010, a nine-year-old girl suffered minor injuries after being hit by a bolt which had fallen from the Thunder Dolphin roller coaster. And it was open for the whole season after the incident.

I don't know then. I think the park is just struggling with the funds to have it open.

I am back from taming the awesome Thunder Dolphin on 10th, 11th and 12th September, quite allot of times.
I was pleasantly surprised how fun the coaster was and how much airtime it had to offer. I am so glad it reopened on the 1st August so that I was able to ride it, and add it to my count.
It did beat Sea Viper at Sea World Australia and is now my favourite coaster.

Glad to know that. It does look fun from the POV's. What was it like knowing you were on top of buildings?
