Knightmare (Camelot) - SBNO

Postby Simba » Sun Nov 11, 2012 4:31 pm

Knightmare is a Schwarzkopf/Zierer custom rollercoaster situated at Camelot Theme Park in the UK. It was originally built in Kobe, Japan in a theme park called 'Portopialand' (Now Defunct) under the name 'BMRX'/'Bavarian Mountain Railroad' and was mainly indoors with a huge mountain structure created around the ride. After the park closed, the rollercoaster was dismantled and shipped over to the UK, arriving in late 2006. In early 2007 construction began at Camelot, with the ride opening to the public in the Summer of 2007 as Knightmare.

The trains are big enough to fit 14 people, taking them up a semi-spiral lift up to 80 ft tall and then dropping them into an over-banked curve, the ride has a height restriction of 1.3 metres. It is located in the 'Land of the Brave' area of Camelot, situated on the site of the former looping rollercoaster- The Gauntlet and The Tower of Terror prior to this. Knightmare is a unique rollercoaster, there are only two of its kind in the world the other is Lisebergbanan at Liseberg.

I love this ride! Other than the occasinal jerk, it's surprisingly smooth aswell.

The restraints are stupid though. Lapbar and a seatbelt that doesn't work.

I so wish Knightmare could be brought by Thorpe Park, it defiantly would be thrilling family coaster for the park, and if they give it a good paint job, this could look spectacular on the island behind Swarm and next to Stealth.

I think that is a very good idea for Knightmare, I have riden it before at Camelot, and think it would perfectly suit the line up of coasters at Thorpe, but I highly doubt it would be in a majour investment year, perhaps in a lower investment year then maybe.

I think Knightmare even though it was originally for a theme park in Japan has defiantly become a United Kingdom classic cred, and is very rare, with only two others of it's type existing in the world Jetline at Gröna Lund and Lisebergbanan at Liseberg.

I'm not so sure on that. While it is an amazing family coaster, it is still way too tame for Thorpe. I think will work a lot better at either Oakwood or Drayton Manor. In both of those places it will be a lot more major and would suit the places so well.

I agree with King here. It will just not work at Thorpe. Even though this is a big ride, it is a lot tamer than it looks. A smaller park like Drayton Manor or Oakwood is where this is eventually heading, I think.

Thorpe Park would be an unlikely place for it, granted but they did invest in the relocation of Storm Surge which you would have thought would have suited the one of the other Merlin theme parks market audience like Chessington or Towers, and I could easily see Knightmare becoming one of these if they were to buy it.

Anyway I have always liked the three Schwarzkopf coasters, as they have always had good layouts and a high reride appeal.
