The Smiler - Alton Towers (Gerstlauer Eurofighter)

The Smiler broke down on its media/press evening last night, now this is defiantly déjà vu to Saw The Ride which also broke down on its media/press event back in 2009.

The on ride photo camera has now been installed, after the Serpent Roll, which I think will be a very good location for it.

The Smiler's Entrance is now fully complete.

I am really surprised that this coaster is ready for the May opening date.

I totally agree with you Eclipse that it was inevitable that The Smiler wasn't going to be open to the public in time.

Interestingly The Smiler has been on two train operation on circuit, so the problem may of come from that.

That aerial photo actually makes this ride look relatively short!

That news of Smiler not being open must be really annoying for anyone who made a long journey to the park just for Smiler. They're going to need some skilled workers in Guest Services tomorrow.

That logo is brilliant, I hope this Coaster doesn't sting Towers and Merlin too much.The thing is if this was an Intamin, it would have good uptime and would be built ontime and also be ready for the opening day. Now if this was B&M even though it would be a prototype vertical lift, it would still be amazing!

Yea, That might be the case but remember, the snow is this area held them up big time. Plus, the layout and location of this ride would have made really awkward for the builders to build.

True, but that doesn't defeat the point that the coaster should of been started allot earlier to compensate for all those effects.
And also that parts from Gerstlauer didn't arrive until very late in the construction of The Smiler.

I also had a feeling that another Hitler reaction to the new delay would happen, to be honest I thought it was pretty funny.
The picture with Mr Willy Wonka also pretty much sums up my original fear of the coaster when it was officially announced as Gerstlauer
